THOUSAND PALMS, CA - (February 13, 2007) - Animal Samaritans SPCA is the recipient of the Albert and Anna Herdina Memorial Fund, through The Community Foundation serving Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The grant provides financial assistance to seniors who meet the requirements. Funding from this year's grant is available through December 1, 2007 or until depleted, whichever comes first. Seniors are encouraged to apply by calling 760-343-4379.
Qualifying individuals must be 65 or older, permanent residents of the Coachella Valley or Morongo Basin with a monthly income not exceeding $1,500. The pet must belong to the senior citizen. Animal Samaritans SPCA may approve veterinary services such as dental care, medical care, emergency care, annual exams, vaccinations, euthanasia, lab works or other diagnostics test.
The Herdina memorial Fund was established in 2002 by a generous bequest from Mary C. Herdina (1917-2001), a long-time Riverside County resident and an animal lover.
Animal Samaritans SPCA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization working to eliminate the euthanasia of adoptable animals through prevention. Programs and services in place to save the lives of animals include humane education, low cost and no-cost spay and neuter, low-cost vaccinations, microchipping, no-kill shelter, and adoptions. Services offered free to the community also include a volunteer-based animal assisted therapy program for hospitals, health care, special needs facilities, and Juvenile Hall. Animal Samaritans SPCA, founded in 1978, is the Coachella Valley's lead animal welfare organization. It operates a thrift store, The Litter Box, in Cathedral City. More information is available by calling 760-343-3216 and by visiting www.animalsamaritans.org.
