ANIMAL SAMARITANS ENCOURAGES PET LOVERS TO ADOPT IN JUNE: LOWERS FEES DURING ADOPT-A-CAT MONTH

THOUSAND PALMS, CA - (June 7, 2007) - Throughout June, Animal Samaritans SPCA is lowering the adoption fee for adult cats (4 months or older) from $60 to $30. Because of the annual breeding cycle of felines, this time of year animal shelters are inundated with new born kittens. As a result the month of June has been dubbed National Adopt-A-Cat Month.

The Animal Samaritans clinic and adoption shelter is located just north of Interstate 10 at 72307 Ramon Road in Thousand Palms. "We house over 40 cats," notes Executive Director Fred Saunders. "This time of year most of our adult cats get overlooked by people who are drawn to the cute and cuddly newborns."

All cats and dogs at Animal Samaritans are spayed or neutered before being adopted. They are provided necessary medical attention, micro-chipping and vaccinations. After June, the fee to adopt an adult cat will revert from $30 back to $60. The price to adopt a kitten is $85.

Animal Samaritans can also micro-chip your adopted pet for $25. The procedure, which involves the insertion of a grain-sized ID code under the animal's skin, helps pet owners recover their lost or stolen animals.

Animal Samaritans SPCA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit animal welfare organization committed to eliminating the euthanasia of adoptable animals. Programs and services in place to save the lives of healthy and treatable animals include prevention through humane education; low cost and no-cost spay and neuter; low-cost vaccinations; micro-chipping; shelter and care; and adoptions to lifelong homes. We also offer free services that enhance the bond between people and animals, such as a volunteer-based animal assisted therapy program for hospitals, health care, special needs facilities, and Juvenile Hall. Animal Samaritans SPCA, founded in 1978, is the Coachella Valley's lead animal welfare organization. More information is available by calling 760-343-3216 and by visiting www.animalsamaritans.org
